My Cruise on the Carnival Glory

My husband and I just returned from celebrating our 30th Anniversary on The Carnival Glory New England/Canada cruise July 31- August 5 to St. Johns and Halifax. It was simply exquisite. Close to Home cruises are an economical way to save money on a vacation. Most of the cruisers we met were from the New York Tri-state area and either drove or took a Port Authority bus to the Pier. Parking is $30 a day which is really economical compared to paying airfare!
The weather cooperated with us. This year we had an unusually hot and humid summer this and it was a pleasure to escape to low humidity and temperatures in the low 70s - low 80s. We were told this was very unusual because the temperatures are usually a little lower and its often foggy. My umbrella never left my bag which I was very pleased about. I did carry a lightweight Jacket with me which was perfect.

Cruisers were already enjoying the use of the pools and the Jacuzzis when we embarked on the ship. I was told that when the weather is inclement there is a covering over the pool which still allows Cruisers to take that daily dip.

Embarkation Day: Embarkation was pretty smooth. We encountered long lines at the check-in but the time went by quickly as conversed with the other excited Cruisers standing around us. Once we past check in we went straight to the Lido Deck Red Sail Restaurant to get some lunch. The food on this ship is a culinary dream!! That is all I can say. More about that later.
I have to mention the one part of the cruise that I don't like its the dreaded Mandatory Coast Guard Safety Drill. There is no getting around it. Once that torturous 20 minutes is over the FUN begins!!
Gail's Tip: Be at the Pier early around 12 noon or so to avoid those long lines and get a good early start on your vacation. Its a good idea to pack your bathing suit, and other items you may need immediately in your carry-on bag as you wait for your luggage to be delivered to your Cabin.

Bon Voyage: The place to be when the Ship leaves Port is on the Lido Deck. That is where the Party really begins. I had my camera in hand as hubby and I took pictures of the New York skyline and Statue of Liberty and Ellis island as we sailed by. The ship went up in a collective "ohhhhh" of astonishment as we passed under the Verranzano Bridge. All during this time the DJ is playing music and people are doing the Electiric Slide and the Cha-Cha Slide and dancing away while others are taking in the sites.

Our Ocean View Cabin was a very nice size and very comfortable. Wewere surprised when we entered the Cabin and found it to be decorated courtesy of Ann Sedgwick the Business Development Director from Carnival Cruise who works very closely with YTB Travel. It was nice to be able to look out the window during the Cruise.

Cruises are known for their cuisine and the Carnival Glory did not disappoint. We were assigned to the
Platinum Dining Room at 8:15pm. Our Waiter was Dickson from India. A real funny dude and a pretty good dancer as well we found out. But the dining highlight was our dinner at the Emerald Steakhouse on the actual night of our anniversary. Ahhhh what a experience to be wined and dined and called "Madame" and "Sir". The food was straight from heaven. My hubby had the lamb chops that melted in your mouth (you know I had to sample it) and I had the Lobster tail. I should have taken a picture of the presentation because they looked like photos. I recommend this experience to everyone. Its only $30 per person and it would cost way more in a similar restaurant in New York.
For breakfast and Lunch we ate on the Lido Deck at the Red Sail restaurant Buffet. One of the days there was the Chocolate Buffet for chocolate lovers. Have you ever had Chocolate cheese cake? Yummm...
Honorable mention to the Creams Cafe. A must stop if you are a StarBucks type lover. I loved their Lattes. Do NOT leave the ship until you try the famous Chocolate Melting cake after dinner in the dining room. It was heavenly! There is nothing more I can say about that! LOL.

Captain's Night was fun. We got to dress up and meet the crew, take some formal pictures. We met some great people. This is a highlight of every cruise.

Everynight we went to the Las Vegas Style show in the Amber Palace. It was like going out on a date every night after dinner. The costuming, staging, singing and dancing was top notch. My favorite night was when Justin the illusionist gave his show. All the standard tricks we see on TV in person, BUT its combined with music and dance which made it very unique. When this show was finished everyone was on their feet giving a standing ovation.

Carnival Glory is one of the first ships to roll out the Punchliner Comedy club. They have several shows, PG and an Adult Only. We went to the PG version. It was held in the Ebony Cabaret. I enjoyed it. There were several kids there and the comedy was very family friendly.

We spent 2 days in Port. First Port day was in St. Johns. There are several reasonably priced Excursions to take. We chose the Trolley which took us to the Reversing Falls and gave us a tour of Downtown Halifax. Some people chose just to walk around. and take in the sights by foot.
Second Port Day was in Halifax Nova Scotia. We originally planed to go to the Black History Tour but it was cancelled. It left a lot of disappointed people. However that disappointment did not last long when we took a visit to the famed Peggy's Cove. It was simply breathtaking! The second part of our Excursion was to the Fairlawn Cemetary to see the site where many of the Titanic victims were buried. There was parts of the Titanic story that I never knew. It was a great learning experience.

Gail's Tip- Take a Carnival Cruise endorsed excursion, as they make sure you are back to the ship on time. If you chose to go off on your own. Plan to be back at the ship at least one hour before you are scheduled. You don't want to miss the ship.

Last but not least is a shout out to the Cruise Director Jorge. He brings such excitement to the ship. He is obviously a comedian in a former life, and makes the most mundane and boring talks (like how to disembark) into his own private show. AND you definitely remember everything he said. Its so funny it sticks with you. This is the hardest working Crew in the world. The ship is white glove clean. A piece of lint don't stand a chance. They are constantly cleaning, fixing. EVERYONE greets you as you pass by.

I had a wonderful time on this cruise. There was never a time where there was nothing to do. I would highly recommend this Cruise to everyone. I noticed that there were several family reunions and Special interest Groups on this cruise. The ship has Private Rooms to hold special functions in. Something to think about for that next special family Event. The Carnival Glory New England/Canada Cruise from New York is a great way to economize on an all inclusive vacation and bypass the expense of Airfare for those who live close to New York.

Carnival Glory Here I come!

The countdown has begun for my husband and I to take our cruise to Canada on the Carnival Glory. Its the Canada itinerary. We are taking a Close to Home cruise. In other words we are leaving from a port that is close to home. In this case we are leaving from New York. No hassles with flights being canceled or Airlines charging for our bags or even losing them for that matter.

This is a 5 day cruise to Canada. Usually people think of the Caribbean when going on cruises, but thee are so many other options. I will be sure to post about our experience on the Carnival Glory when we return!

Black History Vacation

February is the month that Americans and particularly African Americans focus on Black History in this country. History comes alive when we can see the history up close and personal. It makes a big difference when compared to reading about it in a text book. Is great to incorporate into a family vacation. The good part is that this traveling history lesson can be embarked on all year long, and need not be limited to the month of February.

One website is good for exploring points of interest of travel in Black History is

Discover Black Heritage- A Travel Guide to Black History and Culture. This site is chock full of Black History and cultural sites to visit all over the U.S. I chose a few to highlight.

St. Louis Illinois

The Old Courthouse in St Louis where Dred Scott’s request for freedom from slavery was tried and denied by t he Supreme Court in 1857. The court ruled that slaves were not citizens.

The courthouse is not far from the famed Gateway Arch.

Tour the Katherine Dunham Museum in East St. Louis, IL. This museum displays costumes, photographs, programs, letters, awards and mementos from Miss Dunham’s career as a dancer, choreographer, teacher, writer and dance company owner.

New York City

I am going to admit up front! I am very biased when it comes to my hometown New York City. I think its the best. New York is rich with Black History.

Apollo Theatre - Located on the famed 125^th street, This is the home of the Amateur Night at the Apollo, and the launching pad of many careers.

Its also the gathering place in times of celebration such as the election of Pres. Barack Obama and in sadness such as the deaths of Michael Jackson and James Brown.

African Burial Ground – The remains of over 400 free and enslaved men, women and children of African descent were found in 1991 during a Federal Construction Project. This proved that there indeed slaves in the North, and that Africans were a major presence in colonial New York City It is located at 290 Broadway between Duane Street and Reade Street.

One of my favorite places in New York City is the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture –

The Schomburg as it is affectionately called by the locals is part of the New York Pubic Library System, located in the heart of Harlem on 135th Street. It is named after Arturo Schomburg a Puerto Rican Black historian who collected Black history memorabilia which included, books, manuscripts, paintings, photographs and more. He was the curator from 1932 until his death in 1938. There are always exhibits available to educate visitors as well as special presentations.

I have spent many days in this library doing research for papers starting from Middle School years to College years, and have very fond memories.

One other resource I would like to share for Black History Travel is www.Blackatlas.com. Whether the traveler is looking for hair salon, or barber shop that specializes in Black hair or an African American house of worship, or a restuarant that specializes in southern, Caribbean or African cuisines, this is a site to always keep handy for reference.

As I always say, Black History is American History and makes a great a family vacation rewarding. Make your next vacation a Black History Vacation.

Cruise Ships in Haiti?

Cruise Ships in Haiti?
Recently it has come to light that there are Cruise Ships that are still visiting Haiti despite the devastation in the wake of the earthquake. Royal Carribean Cruise Lines has resumed their ports of call in Labadee Haiti, known as a "picturesque wooded peninsula". This peninsula is located 60 miles from the devastation of the earthquake where passengers can enjoy para sailing, jet skiing, barbecues on the beach and rum cocktails served to passengers basking in the sun in their hammocks.

To their credit RCCL has pledged $1 million dollars in aid and has been delivering much needed supplies to Haiti. The visit will keep 500 Haitians employed at the Resort they stop in.
But it seems that passengers and Haitian-Americans have mixed feelings about the resumption of the cruises. Some passengers have elected to remain on the ship because their conscience would not allow them to engage in sun and fun while others other suffering 60 miles away. But on the other hand will staying away from the Resort cause 500 more Haitians to be un-employed and lose their valuable income to their families and add to the country's problems? This is the dilemma.

I posed this question to many of my Haitian friends. Once again the response was mixed. Some were outraged that Cruise ships would carry on with a "business as usual" attitude. Others mentioned that it may be good for the economy of Haiti. A few brought up concern of safety and security, that some desperate Haitians may try to take over the Resort or the cruise ships.
I have been informed that the port is heavily guarded and there are 12 foot high fences surruonding the area.

I honestly do not have the answer. I understand both points, pro and con. I hope that Royal Carribean will continue to provide financial support and aid to Haiti and treat the citizens with respect and dignity. That is the only way Cruise Ships should go to Haiti.

Carnival Destiny Cancels 2 Cruises

The Carnival Destiny cancelled 2 cruise sailings from February 13, and February 18. It will be returning to Drydock for repairs. I received this E-mail from Carnival today.

"The Carnival Destiny is experiencing a problem with its propulsion system and regrettably, Carnival must cancel the departures for February 13th and February 18th in order to take the ship to an unscheduled drydock for repairs."

Carnival states it will work with cruisers who booked a cruise on the Carnival Destiny to find another cruise that works with Cruiser's vacation schedule. Carnival will also provide a $100 per person onboard credit when rebooking any further Carnival cruise, departing prior to December 15, 2011

There are Options
As per the Carnival E-mail that was sent out_
*Reschedule immediately on another voyage - there is good availability on a wide variety of Florida departures.

*Cancel and have Carnival hold the payment for a future Carnival cruise (valid for sailings departing within 24 months)

*Cancel and receive a full refund, inclusive of Carnival's air supplement, optional land packages, Vacation Protection Plan and government fees and taxes. No further action on your part is necessary as refunds will automatically be processed in three weeks.

Regarding Air Fare

If independent air transportation was purchased and Cruisers need to make changes to accommodate a new departure, Carnival will reimburse up to $200 per person (via a refundable on board credit) for airline change fees so long as documentation is provided. Please submit supporting documentation to Carnival's Guest Admin Department, fax # 305-405-6477.

For questions or concerns, please contact Carnival's Guest Services Department at 1-800-327-9501 with your preference as soon as possible.

I just wanted to get the word out to anyone who was booked on these sailings. I have a client who has already changed her cruise and is looking forward to her Valentine's Week Cruise!

Bus Trip from the Bronx to Lancaster, PA

I had forgotten how fun a bus trip for a group could be until I was on one over the Thanksgiving weekend. I was able to organize a 2 day bus trip to Lancaster Pennsylvania for a Bronx church.
Yes YTB Travel is very much alive and well in the Bronx!

I have the advantage of having some wonderful vendors. American Destinations Inc helped us build an exciting itinerary! The trip begain 7:30 AM on Black Friday when our bus arrived with the world’s friendliest bus driver ever. Boarding our Spacious motorcoach equipped with DVR and TVs, we watched a movie, did some laughing and even had some raffles.

After rest stop to stretch our legs we arrived at our location around 12 noon. Was Tanger Outlets and Rockvale Outlets ready for this Bronx group of savvy shoppers? Well I can say that we came, we saw and we conquered! After a day of Outlet shopping we were ready to check into our Hotel at the Hampton Inn Lancaster. Our tired and hungry group walked in the lobby with their arms brimming with their sales bounty of the day. We were greeted by the Hampton Inn staff with a welcome basket of goodies and piping hot coffee, tea and hot chocolate. I quickly remembered why Hampton Inn is one of my favorite hotel chains.

We checked in our rooms, freshened up and was ready for dinner at Good n Plenty Family Style Restaurant. The temperature had dropped and it got pretty cold but we were greeted by the warm hearts and hospitality of the Restaurant staff. One thing that intrigued me was the artwork on the walls. It was 3D wood carving/paintings. I have never seen anything like that! We had some home cooked style fried chicken, ham and a spread like you have never seen. I had Shew fly pie for the first time ever! After dinner it was back on the bus to the hotel in our comfortable beds to get some rest for the exciting day ahead of us.

One thing I like about Hampton Inn chain is their hot breakfasts! Well they did not disappoint at all! There was something for everyone and then some! We checked out at 9:30 AM and boarded our bus well fed and rested to head off to the Farmer’s Market. I had forgotten about this Farmer’s Market. Soon as I waled in the door., I was greeted with the familiar aroma of fresh meat, vegetables, pastries, breads, pies and more. Then I remembered, I use to come here with the church of my youth! The Farmer’s Market is an experience that you cannot describe but your senses just explain it all.

Next on our itinerary was a trip to Kitchen Kettle Village. This is an knick knack lovers village. There is something for everyone there. Performing there was an acapella choir singing hymns. They sounded like angels. Some of us just sat and enjoyed the free concert while others got more shopping.

Well, it was time for lunch, and it was at the Millers Smorgasbord. The best way to describe this restaurant is a Delectable food overdose! Everything there was good! An all you can eat buffet from Soup to nuts to desert!

After lunch we were back on the bus to our way to the climax of the trip. That was to t he Sight and Sound Millenium theatre to see “the Miracle of Christmas”. I am from New York, and I can tell you that Radio City Music Hall with its Christmas productions have nothing on the presentation we saw. It was jaw dropping to see Angels descending from the ceiling against a backdrop of a starry sky. The audience sat in the midst of a panoramic stage that surrounded us by 2 stages on the sides as well as in front, depicting a Bethlehem village of that time. The show stopper was seeing the live animals on the stage and coming down the aisles putting the audience right in the midst of the story. The Christmas story truly came alive. Afterwards we met and took a picture in front of the 30 foot Angel tree in the Theatre’s huge lobby! The grounds of the Sight and Sound are absolutely enchanting.

We boarded our motorcoach on our way back to Bronx,New York with memories that we will always cherish. A bus trip is a great way for a church, non-profit or any type of group to bond and fellowship together. Laughter could be heard throughout the bus. While I was dozing off in my seat and the movie playing in the DVR was watching me, I felt a tap on my shoulder and someone asking me “Ok when do we start planning the next trip”. That makes a Travel consultant very happy!

Traveling Safely With Diabetes

Many of my clients have health issues that often pose challenges to enjoying their vacations. I often find myself providing health coaching to them, which is I am more than happy to do. Today I received a newsletter from John Hopkins Health alert that addressed Traveling Safely with Diabetes, that makes some great points.

So here is the Health Alert in its entirety from John Hopkins.

Having diabetes shouldn't get in the way if you want to see Paris, take a cruise, or simply spend time with your grandchildren in another state. Here’s practical advice to help you travel safely with diabetes.

First Stop: Your Doctor's Office: Schedule a visit with your physician some weeks before taking an extended trip. Be sure your regular vaccinations are up-to-date, and check on what medications or vaccinations are recommended before visiting certain parts of the world. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has the latest information on vaccination and medication recommendations; visit wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/default.aspx. (The American Diabetes Association [www.diabetes.org/home.jsp] and the National Diabetes Education Program [www.ndep.nih.gov/] also have good information on traveling.) In addition:

*Get a signed letter from your doctor stating that you have diabetes and listing the medical supplies you require, such as insulin, syringes, pumps, or lancets. Carry this letter with you when you travel.

*If you don't already have a bracelet, necklace, or some other form of identification showing that you have diabetes, now is a good time to get one.
Be sure you have more than enough diabetes medication in case of an emergency.

*Ask your doctor how your travel plans will affect your diabetes medication requirements. With most pills, it is reasonable to gradually change the time you take them if you cross many time zones. If you take only one shot of long-acting insulin a day, you will have to gradually change the timing of that shot -- for instance, increasing the time between shots by three to six hours every 24 hours. Most people are on long-acting and short-acting insulin. Our recommendation is to test frequently and take the short-acting insulin before every meal, whatever time that may be, with adjustments made in the dose if your blood glucose is higher or lower than usual.

*If you are traveling to a country where English is not widely spoken, learn how to say, "I have diabetes" and "Please get me to a hospital" in the native language of each country you plan to visit.

*If you do need medical treatment while abroad, it's best to know ahead of time how to get it. One good source is the International Association for Medical Assistance to Travellers (IAMAT) website, www.iamat.org, which features a directory of qualified, English-speaking physicians around the world.

Pack Right. If you are flying, your diabetes supplies should be in your carry-on bag. Here are diabetes essentials to pack:

Insulin and oral diabetes medication. Take twice as much insulin and oral medication as you would normally need for the duration of your trip. Insulin stays good for about a month at room temperature, but extreme temperatures will damage insulin and may make it entirely inactive. Don’t keep insulin in a suitcase that will be stowed in the cargo compartment of a plane that may freeze, and don't leave it in the glove compartment or trunk if you're in a car that may overheat. Be sure that all insulin and injectors are in their original packaging with their brand labels. Keeping all of your insulin, syringes, and other tools for diabetes management in a separate pouch can make security screening easier.

*Syringes, lancets, and test strips. As with diabetes medications, double up on syringes, lancets, and blood glucose and urine ketone test strips, too. You can bring an unlimited number of unused syringes in your carry-on bag as long as they are accompanied by insulin or other medication that requires injection. Bring some extra batteries for your equipment, since you never know when you'll need them.

*Emergency medical kit. Include such items as glucagon to treat hypoglycemia (make sure one of your travel partners knows how to administer it), other prescription medications, over-the-counter pain relievers, a first-aid manual, anti-diarrheal medicine, insect repellent, sunscreen, and talcum powder (to keep your feet dry if you're doing lots of walking).

And finally … Bring a diabetes identification card or a medical alert necklace or bracelet (if you're not already wearing one). If your insurance policy covers emergencies abroad, bring necessary insurance paperwork. You have to plan what to carry with you at all times, too. Never leave the hotel without some source of sugar you can use if your glucose drops. Be careful to take your insulin, pills, and testing supplies with you every day in case there is a delay getting back to your home base.

It is possible to travel safely with diabetes.

Edited to add:11/1/09- Since I originally posted this blog, many people have asked about what to do when you cross time lines and you are a diabetic taking insulin. Many doctors advise that the traveler Stay with the original schedule. That would mean wearing a watch with alarms and keeping the watch timed to your Home Time zone. Others suggest gradually adjusting your insulin schedule to match your vacation time zone. In either case it takes alot of careful planning.
It is important for the traveler to discuss this important decision with their doctor and work together to come up with a solution.

Airlines Will add a "Holiday Surcharge" Happy Holidays :-/

Airline passengers just seem to not be able to catch a break! It seems that airlines will be adding a $10 "holiday surcharge" on this year! Gone are the competitive pricings of Holiday season 2008! It seems that American, United, Delta and US Airways added" $10 each way" surcharge for travel on three busy days around the Thanksgiving and New Year's holidays. Can some body say "Bah humbug" ?

It is thought that the airlines added the charge because it was a quick, and easy way to charge more on peak travel days. The Sunday after Thanksgiving November 29, is one of the busiest travel days of the year, while January 2 and 3 are popular with holiday travelers as well.

Apparently the airlines are losing money on the Business Travel. With the advent of Phone conference lines and webinars, companies are opting to use these tools for virtual meetings. Many companiies have been forced to cut down on their Conference budgets as well.

You can be sure that the prices will increase even more the closer we get to the holdays.
So how can we be frugal during this holiday season?
* Book your airfare now before the fares go up even more.
*Travel light. Take carry on luggage and avoid the luggage fees.
*if you are taking gifts for the family, consider shipping them via UPS, Fedex or Post office. You will end up saving tons of money.
* College students coming home for the winter break? Encourage them to ship their items ahead. Book their one way fares home NOW. They can book another one way ticket back to school late in January.The prices are sure to come down by then.

There is nothing better to see than the smiles on a person’s face or hear the glee in the voice of someone who has just booked their dream vacation. That is why I love my Travel biz! But to help you plan, crucial information is needed.

Often I am left a message on my phone or voicemail saying “Gail can you tell me how much it cost to go to(you fill in the blank). Now I am more than happy to grant such a request however much more information is needed. So I will like to provide a blueprint for travel requests.

What type of vacation are you thinking of ? Would you want a cruise? A Resort? Adventure vacation? Spa Vacation? Would a 18 hole PGA Golf green and resort interest you? Or maybe its time for that long awaited family vacation.

Where do you wish to vacation to and where would you be leaving from? This greatly affects the bottom line. The time of the year and even the day of the week you leave on can affect your bottom line sometimes even in the hundreds.
How many people are going? Is this a romantic getaway for you and your spouse, or is it a Girlfriend Getaway. I always need to know how many adults and how many children with their ages.

What do you want to do on this vacation? Relax on a beach? Go kayaking? Go sight seeing? Take a cooking class? Research genealogy ? What is it you specifically want to do? What are you excited about seeing and doing?
Consider what type of hotel you would want to stay in. How many stars? 2,3,4 stars?

Would you prefer a large hotel near the main strip or a smaller quieter intimate hotel off the beaten path? Must it have a swimming pool? Would you prefer a hotel that includes breakfast?

What is a budget you would like to work with? Do you have a limit, or do we throw caution to the wind.? These are just some of the questions that as a Travel consultant I would need to be answered to help you plan your dream vacation.

A new Discount Airline in the' Hood- Jet America

There is a new discount Airline in the tri-state area. Jet America.com begins flying out of Newark Airport on July 13. They boast of $9 one way fares but trust me there is a catch. This airline plans to go the way of RyanAir and charge fees for a lot of their services. They will charge a $5 convenience fee to book on their site.
Jet America will charge an additional $20 for a round-trip with an assigned seat, $20 to buy a ticket by phone and $10 to book on the Web site (www.jetamerica.com).

Baggage Fees
A first bag fee of $20 each way and a second bag fee of $20 each way.

The airlines will service New York City via Newark Airport, Toledo/Detroit, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Lansing/Michigan, South Bend/Indiana, Orlando/Melbourne Florida

I am all for saving money any way you can. This may be a good alternative to the higher priced airlines. Just remember to read all the fine print.

I always point my clients to affordable travel opportunites, including airfares. If you find one cheaper than my site, then I say "go for it". Is all about helping people!

Travel Requirements Changing June 1, 2009

As of June 1, 2009 there are new travel requirements to enter into the U.S. American citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports will have to have a passport, passport card, or other travel document, that is approved by the Department of Homeland Security. One of the acceptable forms is an enhanced Driver's License. Passports will continue to be required for air travel.

CDC says its Safe to Travel to Mexico

CDC has removed its recommendation that U.S. travelers avoid travel to Mexico because of the H1N1 (Swine Flu) virus. The previous health warning has been downgraded to a Health precaution.

Taken from the CDC site:
CDC recommends that travelers at high risk for complications from any form of influenza discuss with their physicians the risks and benefits of travel in the context of their planned itinerary to Mexico, and may want to consider postponing travel. Travelers at high risk for complications include:

Children less than 5 years old
Persons aged 65 years or older
Children and adolescents (less than 18 years) who are receiving long-term aspirin therapy and who might be at risk for experiencing Reye syndrome after influenza virus infection
Pregnant women
Adults and children who have chronic pulmonary, cardiovascular, hepatic, hematological, neurologic, neuromuscular, or metabolic disorders
Adults and children who have immunosuppression (including immunosuppression caused by medications or by HIV)
Residents of nursing homes and other chronic-care facilities

In addition Carnival cruiselines announced they are returning to their original Mexico itineraries as early as the end of May based on the CDC recommendations.
Expect the other major cruiselines to follow suit!

Now that the warning has been lifted, and CDC says its safe to travel to Mexico I expect prices of cruises, resorts, and tours to plummet, making some good Vacation options for bargain hungry travelers!

Its great to see things are getting better for Mexico.

Medical Travel Tips

Nurses in the United States just comepleted yearly celebration of Nurses Week 2009. Its Celebrated each year from May 6-12. The last day of the celebration is the actual birthday of Florence Nightingale. The theme for this year is "Nurses building a Healthy America" which is exactly what we do.

I am no longer in the traditional hospital setting that many people envision most nurses as belong. The nursing profession has branched out in so many ways since Florence was around. I am a Nurse Case manager which involves alot of teaching. I absolutely love it.

What I like even better is combining my nursing expertise with my newest love of travel. For example many people flocked to my blog as they were seeking of information regarding the H1N1 virus (Swine Flu) and how it would affect their travel plans. Its remarkable how many misconceptions prevailed about that subject.

Recently I was speaking to one of my patients who I case manage, who was preparing to leave for vacation. I was providing her some medical travel trips. I realized that it’s a good idea to share with my readers. So here we go!

1- If you have a chronic illness or condition ( heart, diabetes, pregnancy etc) make sure you get clearance from your doctor to travel, especially if it’s a long trip or you are traveling by plane.

2- Please do not put your medications in your suitcase. Always Keep them in your carry on bag. If your plane is delayed or if your suitcases take a trip of their own to some exotic island without you, you don’t want your medications going along too. Last summer coming home from Convention my husband decided to pack his medication in one of the suitcases. Our flight kept being delayed and delayed and delayed. Finally it was canceled. For a while our bags were no where to be found. My husband had a fit and said my Medications were in there! Long story short, we were this close to having our bags shipped to Laguardia without us. We finally got our bags after hours and hours of waiting. He learned his lesson!

3- Keep your medications in their original bottles. – In case of emergency, your doctor’s name, dosage and name of pharmacy and is on it.

4- Make sure you have enough medications for the trip and a few extra days over. If your flight is delayed for some reason, or another unforeseen situation occurs you will be covered. I even suggest taking a week's worth.

5- Have a plan if you lose your medications. A friend or family member can ship a new prescription or new supply to you. A few of my patients have actually had to do this.

6- Keep a list of all your medical conditions, doctors’ names and telephone numbers, and list of medications in a small note book. This also stays in your carry on bag.

7- Carry a “First Aid" kit with you- medication for motion sickness, anti-diarrheal medication, antibiotic ointment, band-aids, , pain reliever, cold medicine. Custom tailor this kit to suit you and your family’s needs. Of course this is also in your carry on.

8- Very important! Always purchase Traveler’s insurance. you never know when you may need it. You or a family member may become ill. Or maybe a family emergency calls you home early., You will never regret it!

As of today, April 28, 2009 Carnival, Princess Cruises, Holland America, Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Carribean have all canceled their ports of call in Mexico due to the Swine flu outbreak. For today most of the ships just spent an extra day at sea.

Mexico, the Swine Flu and Travel

The Swine Flu was a hot topic at work today with my co-workers and my patients. As I nurse I am doing double duty addressing the medical issues and the Travel side of this public health issue with friends and family.
There has been 103 confirmed deaths in Mexico as of this writing . There are 44 confirmed cases in the US, which are milder than the strain found in Mexico. 28 of them are in New York isolated to a school in Queens, NY. World Health Organization elevated the Pandemic alert to Phase 4 out of 6.
So of course everytime someone sneezed in our facility they came over to “Nurses’ Row” My office is in the Bronx which is just over the bridge from Queens. Ah.... Let the fun begin! .

Its important to note that this Swine flu operates as any other flu and the same precautions should be taken to prevent its spread. I have heard and read some interesting concepts about the flu. Like it came from eating Pork, or from people having un-natural relations with Pigs, which is also a myth.
So lets begin with:

What is the Swine Flu?
It is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by an influenza (flu) virus. Mopst people do not realize that animals get illnesses that are also common to humans, like diabetes, heart disease, cancer and Yes the flu. Human cases of Swine flu occur around people who are around pigs. It can also pass from person to person. This strain of Swine flu also has bird flu and human flu genes.

How do you catch swine flu and is it Contagious?

Swine flu is spread by contact with infected pigs or their surrounding area that has been contaminated with Swine flu viruses.. Also spread by contact with a person who has been infected with the Swine flu. It is considered contagious which simply means it can be spread from person to person.

How Can We Prevent spreading the Swine Flu

* Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
* Cough or sneeze in the bend of your el bow if you do not have a tissue available
* Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners , like Purel are also effective.
* Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
* stay home from work or school if you become ill with the Swine Flu. Pleeeeeese!!!!
* limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
*Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. That is how Germs are spread.
What should I do if I get sick?
If you are sick, you should stay home and avoid contact with other people as much as possible to keep from spreading your illness to others. Contact your doctor . You may be prescribed an anti-viral medication such as Tamiflu or Relenza which can lessen the severity of the flu.

I planned a Trip to Mexico, Should I cancel it?

Many people are asking if they should change their travel plans.
The US is planning on issuing a Travel Alert for non-essential travel to Mexico.

This is the perfect scenario to emphasize the importance of purchasing Travel Insurance. This is the type of situation that it is very useful in.

So far No cruises to Mexico have been canceled.
(THERE HAS BEEN A CHANGE, CLICK HERE FOR UPDATE ON CRUISE LINE ITINERARY CHANGES DUE TO THE SWINE FLU)

For example, Carnival Cruise line offered this on their site:

“Fortunately, there currently is no evidence of a swine flu pandemic and there have been no reports of guests exhibiting symptoms of swine flu on Carnival’s ships.
Carnival enforces the highest of standards for cleaning and sanitation on all of our ships to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. We are monitoring the situation in Mexico and maintain regular contact with the Centers for Disease Control. We do not anticipate that our guests' cruise experience will be impacted by this type of illness and will not be making any adjustments to our itineraries.”

No Airline flights have been canceled. Some airlines are offering passengers to change their travel plans without penalty. Other airlines are offering to reschedule flights and/or travel plans at no extra charge. This may change day to day. Check with your airlines for their policy, or the travel agent you booked with.
Information is changing and evolving daily Check at the CDC.Gov site for the most up to date information on Travel to Mexico and the effect that the Swine Flu may have on it.

In the meantime, lets pray for Mexico. Its been a difficult year for our neighbors to the South.

Susan Boyle, Pursuing her Dream

Susan Boyle- Pursuing her Dream

Recently a friend sent a YouTube Video of 47 year old unemployed Susan Boyle trying out for “Britains Got Talent” . I must admit I am a sucker for these reality talent shows. I love music but I also love the comedic aspect of these shows, especially during these turbulent economic times when all we hear is gloom and doom.
I watched the video and saw a frumpy Susan Boyle address the judges. I saw the look on Simon Cowell’s face when she expressed her desire t o be a singer, as he casually glanced over her resume. She explained how she always wanted to b e a singer. How she has never been married or even kissed by a guy. Simon went on to ask her what her dream was.
“I’m trying to be a professional singer,” she said.
“And why hasn’t it worked out so far?” Cowell asked.
“I’ve never been given the chance before,” she said. “But here’s hoping it’ll change.”

You can feel the jokes coming. And then “it” happened. She opened her mouth and what sounded like an Angelic serenade straight from heaven proceeded to come out! Singing “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables Susan Boyle cast aside all the doubts and negativity she has undoubtedly received in her life. Years of caring for her sick mother alone, of dashed dreams all vanished during that moment.
The look on Simon’s face as well as the jaw dropping expressions on the faces of the other judges was priceless! The preconceived perception they had in their minds was immediately shattered to bits like exploding glass. Susan Boyle sang with the confidence and assurance of a multi- million dollar professional!
What a lesson to learn from Susan Boyle. Les Brown has a saying “Don't let someone else's opinion of you become your reality.” Regardless of whether its pursing your education, your life’s dreams or a business. We should always keep Susan Boyle as a prime example of why we should never give up on the dreams that are in our hearts. No matter what any of the dream snatchers around us have to say.

The U.S. State Department has issued a Travel Alert to Mexico. People are now wondering, is it safe to travel to Mexico? The Travel industry says absolutely yes, as long as precautions are taken.

The U.S. state dept issued this Travel Alert

This Travel Alert updates security information for U.S. citizens traveling and living in Mexico. It supersedes the Travel Alert for Mexico dated October 15, 2008, and expires on August 20, 2009.

“While millions of U.S. citizens safely visit Mexico each year (including thousands who cross the land border every day for study, tourism or business), violence in the country has increased recently. It is imperative that travelers understand the risks of travel to Mexico, how best to avoid dangerous situations, and whom to contact if one becomes a crime victim. Common-sense precautions such as visiting only legitimate business and tourist areas during daylight hours, and avoiding areas where prostitution and drug dealing might occur, can help ensure that travel to Mexico is safe and enjoyable”.

The State Department is advising travelers to avoid areas of prostitution and drug-dealing. The problem is increased violence near the U.S. borders due mostly to drug cartel wars. Americans have been kidnapped, injured or killed during violent attacks, mostly in non tourist areas. Its important to note that 20 million tourists and travelers visited Mexico last year, without a problem and had a wonderful experience. For the most part tourists have not been targeted.
However, When I hear clients say that they want to visit out of the area places when they travel to see “how the people really live” I want to SCREAM!!!! That is when tourists have the potential of encountering trouble.

Recently some colleges have issued warnings to students to avoid Mexico altogether during Spring Break. After all we know they usually do not go on organized tours.

Here are some suggestions for you to have a fantastic and safe trip to Mexico
~Travel on main roads and travel only during daylight hours
~Stay in known tourist areas
~Exercise caution in unfamiliar areas and always be aware of your surroundings.
~Avoid traveling alone
~Do not wear expensive looking jewelry
~Do not carry large amounts of cash or valuables
~Book excursions and tours directly from your cruise lines or Resort concierge – They will use legitimate vendors and the tours will be in safe areas.
~Leave an itinerary with family or friends who are not traveling with you

Celebrate Black History by Taking a Vacation

February is traditionally Black History Month. Black history is 365 days out of the year, not just one month out of the year. Why not turn this year’s family vacation into Black History learning experience?

It is so important for us to pass down the legacy of Black contributions to world history. So ofter our youth are not even aware of the sacrifices and contributions their elders and ancestors have made. I listed a few venues in this blog where
Black history can be celebrated and more learned about it.

One such venue is Washington D.C. Washington DC has a wealth of Black History that is available year round for the family, chock full of history. Did you know that DC was the first city to pass an Emancipation Act, freeing all slaves even before the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Lincoln? Interesting information. A favorite place to visit is the Frederick Douglass Historical Site. Visit the home of this great abolitionist . We went as a family and must say this was one of the highlights of our trip.

There is also the Anacostia Community Museum, one of the Smithsonian museums. They have a wonderful tour called Jubilee: African American Celebration where you can discover the rich history of African American celebration through artifacts, photographs, and videos.

Another Venue is Memphis Tennessee. If you love music like me then you will love Stax Museum of American Soul Music Otherwise known as Soulville USA Exhibits include an authentic replica of an old Mississippi Delta church demonstrating soul music’s roots in gospel, the Soul Train dance floor Isaac Hayes’ restored 1972 gold-trimmed, peacock-blue El Dorado Cadillac; and case after case of artist bios, costumes, performance footage and the actual Stax recording studio itself. Definitely a must see when visiting the city .

Also In Memphis there is Mason’s Temple the Headquarters of the Church of God in Christ, the largest African American Pentecostal denomination. This is the site where Dr. King gave his "I've Been to the Mountain Top" speech the night before he was assasinated.
No trip to Memphis is complete without going to the National Civil Rights Museum, at the Lorraine Hotel which is the former hotel where Dr. King was assassinated.

To the North of us in Canada there is a rich African Canadian presence.. a popular tourist attraction is the African Canadian Heritage Tour. Part of that tour includes the Uncle Tom’s Cabin Historical site the commemorates the life of Reverend Josiah Henson who worked with the UnderGround Railroad as as an abolitionist. His life inspired Harriet Beecher Stowe’s novel “Uncle tom’s Cabn.”
There is another great site in Ontario that was part of the Underground Railroad. The North American Black Historical Museum Explore a home of escaped slaves and the church where their lives of freedome began.

B lack History is not just one month out of the year. It is 365 days a year. What better way to celebrate Black History than to incorporate it in a family vacation!

Rosa sat so Martin could march. Martin MArched so Barack could run. Barack ran so we all can all fly!

Just sitting here watching CNN and other stations and all through my head the worship song "How Great is our God" is going through my mind. No matter whether one is Republican or Democrat, Black or white, you cannot deny the electricity in t he air. One of the old songs we sing is "We've Come this Far by Faith, Leaning on the Lord". That is how I feel right now. Never, never, never in my lifetime did I dream that I would live to see a time like this. Proof that prayer's work. Prayers of our ancestors and elders.
The Civil Rights era was birthed in the Black church. Prayer meeting after prayer meeting. Chorus (what we now call Worship Songs) after chorus. Strengthening and building the faith of those embarking on change. Many do not realize that the "freedom" songs of the Civil Rights era were modifications of "Negro Spirituals" or Choruses.
We shall Overcome, This Little Light of Mine, I won't Let Nobody Turn Me Around, Keep Your Eyes on the Prize"

This is proof that praise is certainly a weapon in a time of spiritual warfare. I look at Dr. King's often criticized tactics back then. They had sit ins that started in prayer. Marches that started in prayer and praise. It shows me today that Praise and Worship is so important.

Today we are on the threshold of seeing the end of one battle. i just wanted to take the time to thank God for Rev. Martin Luther King and thank God for Barack Obama. I believe these are 2 men cut from the same cloth for "such a time as this".
My whole family is home and we are listening to CNN and speeches and King tributes. Its so important in their lives. I b less God for allowing one son to graduate from college and another to graduate High School and is now in college.
I thank God I can turn to my sons and look them in the face and say "NO MORE EXCUSES" you can achieve whatever you put your heart to do. You WILL experience obstacles. I will not always be smooth sailing. But with God's help you can make.

Andria Hall Woman of Courage

January 12, 2009 was a very sad day for me. My family had to put our best friend, little brother, my baby, playmate down after a brief illness. It was a very emotional day for all of us. He would have been 15 years old next month and he brought so much joy into our family. I really felt it when I came home from work and didn't see my little fur-ball curled up on the couch. Smokey weasled himself in our lives one snowy day in March 1994 when my husband spotted him in the hallway of our building huddled next to the hallway radiator. He immediately spotted my husband and worked himself in our lives. My husband knocked on the door after leaving from work, with this charcoal gray sickly kitten on his shoulder and he said "can we keep him?" just like a little kid. We nursed him back to health from his respiratory infection, skin and eye infections. He showed his gratefulness for the next 15 years.

I got home from work, in mourning for our loss, then I sat down, and got hit by 2 calls informing me that Andria Hall, a former CNN and WNBC news anchor and New Jersey Director with my travel biz host company, passed away after her battle with cancer. I had the pleasure of being blessed by Andria's testimony this past August at our National Convention 2008. She came unto the stage sans the wig she had been previously wearing. Alot of people, including those in her downline had no idea that she was battling cancer, but she decided that she needed to make a statement. What a woman of strength! She talked about how our company's free insurance came in time when she was cut off her husband's insurance. She unashamedly shared her faith in the Lord. She gave encouragement to everyone in that building that may have been facing some sort of challenge. Let me tell you there was not one dry eye in the Edward's Dome when she finished.

Both Smokey and Andria Hall have left me with everlasting memories. I like to think that they are both up there in heaven, having arrived probably around the same time, and his tail is fondly brushing against her leg as they are making friends with each other.
RIP Andria, RIP Smokey as you dwell in God's eternal glory. You will be missed by your loved ones. Until we see you again on that other shore......So long

Oprah Winfrey fell off the wagon...So did I

Watching Oprah Winfrey tell Bob Greene how and why she fell off the weight loss wagon! Now I already told you all what one of my goals are for this year! Yup! I'm right there with Oprah! I'm getting back on the getting healthy wagon!

"Money, fame and success don't mean anything if you can't control your own being." Says Oprah! That's the key "control". She said in 2005 when she was on the cover of her magazine with the midriff bearing outfit she thought she had "conquered the battle of the bulge".

Oprah's weight battle ( and mine too) gives way to some life lessons we all have to deal with.

1- We will never arrive- There will always be another obstacle to overcome in life.
Once we say to ourselves "I did it! Now I can relax" is when we start down that slippery slope of defeat.

2-We can't surrender to obstacles that seem unsurmountable. - Oprah resigned herself to being "fat" when she received the diagnosis of hypothyroidism. She admits to saying "everything I eat is going to make me fat anyway, and my metabolism isn't working, so I might as well just eat whatever I want. Okay. Fat wins,'"

3- We need balance in our lives. Oprah found she needs balance between work and play. She says "It's about extending yourself in so many different directions that you literally become unconscious. You're just trying to get through it all and not giving back to yourself. When you love yourself enough, you take care of yourself."

4- We must be organized- We need to plan. The key to getting back on the wagon is being organized. "You have to plan for your life," Oprah says.

That's the bottom line we have to take care of ourselves, physically,spiritually and emotionally.

Now Oprah is one of the world's richest women, actually richest people for that matter. She wasn't born into wealth. She WORKED hard to become wealthy. She is a businesswoman that anyone should emulate.

As I read the article on her site www.oprah.com I realized more and more that the above principles apply to business as well.
We can't feel that we are successful and now can sit back and rest. We can't surrender to the dreamsnatchers that are jealous of what we achieve or just plain dislike us for having the initiative of helping ourselves. We also cannot succumb to the challenges placed in our lives. We need to seek balance in our lives. Leave time for family. It can't be about business building all the time. Lastly we need to be organized. We need to Plan out our day around our responsibilities as entrepreneurs, parents and community members.

I respect Oprah as she bared her soul and shared the weight challenges she is having. It shows that she is human. She may not know it but she is also a roll model.

So Oprah, I am getting back on the wagon along with you in 2009. In more ways than one! Hey can I book you a cruise?

New Year Resolutions or Goals for 2009?

Every Year I am asked "what are your New Years Resolutions?" And every year those New Year resolutions are gone by the second week in January. The better plan should be to make Goals. Goals are more realistic. they are doable. they can be broken down into smaller steps. The african adage says "The best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.

I learned that Goals should be S.M.A.R.T.
Sspecific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely.

This is my plan for 2009. I will write out my personal, family and business Goals.
This is what my plan of Goals will look like.
Goals
Objective: What I am going to do to work towards my goal
Strategy- My specific plans to reach the objective. How do I overcome the particular obstacles that may prevent me from reaching my objectives.
Evaluation- Re-evaluate my plans and the success or lack of it within a prescribed. How close am I to my success? How far am I way from the starting point? How close am I to the end point?

Here's an Example
Goal- to lose 50 lbs this year (yes I am putting it out there)
Objective- To become healthier, lessen my knee and back pain. to not become diabetic or hypertensive
Strategy- Go back on my Weight Watchers Plan, either the At work program or the Online program Get in more exercise. Take lunch and snacks to work. Journal what I eat. Wear a pedometer. Use my Exercise Walk at Home DVDs. I will set short goals for 5 lbs at a time.
Evaluation- Weekly weigh ins, Monthly measurements.
I actually can elaborate more on this, but you get the idea.

I have made similar plans for my Travel business as well. I have learned alot and I will be making changes to reflect those changes. In addition I will be sharing and assisting my Business Associates on my team to do the same.

When we fail to plan we plan to fail. I intend to make 2009 a year of success for me my famly and my business. Why not join me in making Goals for 2009 instead of New Year Resolutions.

This morning I was listening to my morning call and the speaker was saying that this year she is asking the Lord to "Break the Net" what is that you say? In John 21-1-6 tells the story of how Jesus went fishing with the disciples. They had been unsuccessful in their fishing venture earlier. He told them to go back out and he gave them specific instructions. They followed his instructions and when they tried to pull the Net back up it was so full that the Fish broke the Net. Their blessings were overflowing.
How did this happen?
1-They had enough faith to trust the Master.
2-They followed his exact instructions, even though it didn't make sense to them at the time.
3- They were willing to work

That's it! Just like home based businesses. Its netWORK marketing. A friend pointed out that just like the Disciples we must be willing to push (ACTION) the boat (our PRODUCT) away from the shore (netWORK.

Here's to 2009 coming just in time. More than ever we must not Beleive what we see (Recession) but SEE what we believe ( success) because with God all things are possible!

Forgiveness - Just Let it Go

Lets not go into 2009 with a whole bunch of baggage. We need to learn how to forgive ourselves and Others. Lee Green of Black Business Builders club encourages us to just "Let it Go"

NOBODY WAKES UP IN THE MORNING CHOOSING TO BE THE VILLAIN.

Everyone alive thinks that they’re the “good guy.” He or she is the
hero in their version of the story. They have a reason for what
they do - even if it’s impractical or unworkable or has evil
consequences.

People who are troublesome aren’t worth changing. Don’t even waste
time complaining about them.

If someone hurts you, it’s not about you and you shouldn’t act like
it was. People do what they do because of their own inner reality.
Learn what you can do differently the next time, then forgive them
and move on.

Really. Forgive them completely. And then, figure out how to
manage, tolerate or avoid them in the future.

By the way, forgiving doesn’t mean that you think whatever they did
is okay. It’s NOT okay. But here’s the thing - if you don’t forgive
someone you can’t ever let it go. Then you have to go around with
this burden of anger and sourness. Wasn’t the original hurt enough
for you? Why would you want to preserve it and remember it? Or them?

Carrying grudges ties up brain cells that you could use to make
life sweeter for yourself and those you love. So, after you forgive
them, forgive yourself for getting hurt - and then LET IT GO!

Expect less From Others and More from Yourself

Lee Green from Black Business Builders Club wants us to know we have to hold ourselves more accountable. Principle #8 od the 12 Principles for Change. We are moving on to 2009! Change is going to come.

EXPECT LESS FROM OTHERS AND MORE FROM YOURSELF.

Most people expect way too much from others while they themselves
actually get very little done. Inertia and distraction are
insidious and damn near universal - expect it in others but guard
against it in your own behavior.

Everyone listens to his or her favorite mental radio station -
W.I.I.F.M., which stands for, “What’s In It For Me?” So don’t take
it personally when you’re overlooked, your call goes un-returned,
and you go un-thanked.

Most of your fellow humans are so distracted and disorganized that
they only get around to the most essential, familiar or urgent
things in their lives. They’re on “autopilot” most of the time -
aren’t we all on occasion?

This self-interest is natural and healthy. Use this knowledge of
other’s desires in your plans and proposals.

Here’s the big principle. If you want something to happen, take
control and do it yourself. Don’t get bitter if perhaps someone
else didn’t keep a commitment to help you.

It is a waste of time to criticize others, and a bigger waste to
pay attention to anyone’s criticism of you. Just know that you can
get better at doing things on your own. It’s a LOT easier than
trying to get someone else to change.

I am Ready to make a Change in 2009

I hope you had a blessed Christmas Day yesterday and took the time to reflect on the true "Reason for the Season"
I am continuing the Principles of Change series written by Lee Green of the Black Business Builders Club. As we look toward 2009 its time for personal and business reflections. here is Principle #6

OBLIGATIONS” ARE A FRAUD.

Okay, take a deep breath here. This one gets a lot of people,
because most of us have been brainwashed all of our lives to
believe a huge lie. We’ve all been taught that we “owe” other
people all sorts of obligations, and that we should expect lots of
things from them in return.

That idea, is essentially ... B.S.!

We waste an incredible amount of time either doing things we don’t
want and don’t have to do, or feeling guilty because we didn’t do
something we “should” have done. We also waste a lot of time and
emotion being disappointed when we don’t get what we expect from
others.

Freedom lies in the other direction.

The truth is, you don’t owe anyone anything and they don’t owe
anything to you. This is all part of the “guilt” thing. It’s good
for us to give to others, but ONLY when and how we choose.

The difference between free people who master their lives and those
who are slaves is easy to spot.

Who sets their priorities?

Free people set their own priorities, while “slaves” allow them to
be set by outsiders.

Your life belongs to you and you alone - and not anyone else. Want
a formula for unhappiness? Make your welfare dependent upon someone
else’s choices. Do you need “support” from those you love? Or
approval from a parent or friend? Or permission from anybody to
pursue your own path? That’s not living - that’s slavery!

Don’t look to anyone else for your success or happiness. That’s
your job and yours alone. You must tend to your own welfare. No one
else will, nor should they.

CHRISTmas Blessings to ALL

Jesus is truly the reason for the Season. I was pondering the Christmas story of how a single woman who for all practical purposes gave birth to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. How Kings traveled to give tribute to a baby who they recognized was royalty despite the meagerness of his birth in a manger instead of a palace. I am so thankful.
O Come let Us Adore Him, Christ the Lord

Moving forward to change for 2009

Principles 4 & 5 from "12 Principles of Change" by Lee Green from Black Business Builders Club

YOU MAKE YOUR HABITS AND THEN YOUR HABITS MAKE YOU.

You’ve probably heard the saying, “As you sow, so shall you reap.”
It means that our lives are created by what we do, not by what we
intend. It means that we can harvest only what we plant. And every
day you’re planting something, so choose wisely.

The biggest and most important influences in your life are created
by small daily acts. For example - Meditate, Study, Set Goals,
Save Money, Exercise, Floss, Smile, and Say Thank You.

When you do the right thing at the right time it makes more
difference than if you make a big dramatic effort too late.
Cramming may work in school, but not in real life. The school term
is over in a few months; life lasts longer. Days turn into years
and those years become your life.

The most important qualities in life - Spirituality, Health,
Relationships, Wealth, and Your Personal Character - are developed
by regular acts done on a daily basis. They’re called “practices.”

Daily practices - done on schedule. What? Just “can’t do anything
on a schedule?” Baloney. You can do anything you want on a
schedule, unless you’ve never gotten to a plane on time. It’s a
matter of priorities. And your priorities create your quality of
life. Choose the practices of your life as if you were a farmer.
You can’t skip spring planting if you want a fall harvest. Master
this principle and you will live your life to its fullest.
Changing your life doesn’t take a lot of work - just repeat a
single positive act daily for three weeks and it will become a
habit. Good. Now add another one. Then another one. The force of
good habits will automatically generate power and “good luck,” and
your life will blossom.

GUILT ENSLAVES YOU. RESPONSIBILITY LIBERATES YOU.

Here’s a secret about “Original sin”. It’s guilt, and you get it
from your parents.

Are you self-conscious? Most people are. They’re worried that
they’re “unzipped.” They’re walking around thinking that people
will notice their missing button, their bad hairdo, their poor
credit and personal shortcomings. These feelings are universal -
we all got them while we were being taught how to behave as infants
(”No!” “Bad!” “Don’t!”).

When we become adults we are supposed to leave these feelings of
inadequacy in childhood where they were needed.

The way to do this is to forgive your parents for their
shortcomings, whether they were minor or major. And then forgive
yourself for all your sins, real and imagined. Forgiving doesn’t
mean that you think what happened was okay. It just means that you
free yourself from the work of remembering it and getting mad at
people that may not even be around anymore. Including the younger
“you.” You MUST do this if you want to be free.

Change in 2009 - Principle #3

12 Principles of Change- by Lee Green

3. WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT MOST IS WHAT YOU GET.

There is a Law of Attraction in human nature. What is in your mind
is reflected “out there,” in what you experience as your reality.

Afraid? Then all the goblins that you fear will be attracted to
you. The only useful purpose of fear is to remind you to plan. Plan
so that you protect yourself from harm, but don’t become timid. If
you play it TOO safe, you’ll freeze in place and trade your life
away for nothing.

Angry? Then you’ll get a lot of angry people to tussle with. Your
life will fill up with honking horns and people pushing you around,
and you’ll spend all your time pushing back.

It’s a good idea to choose your habitual thought patterns
carefully. Love, optimism and gratitude are good choices. These
states of mind inspire you to explore, to create, to grow and to
give. People and opportunities will become attracted to you. And
the goblins and angry people will get smaller and less important,
and finally they’ll fade and go away.

The point of choice comes up when you have to deal with a
challenging situation. Do you call it a “bad break” - some S.O.B.
was out to get you? Or was it just something that happened ...

you easier to be around and more creative and good-natured. And
your immune system will be strengthened.

Events are just events until our thoughts and reactions turn them
into experience. What the experience means and how useful it might
be, are the choices that we make -they’re the stories we tell
ourselves about our lives.

We’re taught that it’s not ‘reasonable’ to expect to win all the
time. Nonsense! That kind of thinking numbs ambition and smothers
greatness. Even worse it leads to reasonable excuses. Excuses don’t
accomplish anything so do NOT be reasonable. Actually, achieving
the impossible is quite normal - you’ve done it thousands of times.
EVERYTHING you do now was impossible for you before you did it the
first time, from feeding yourself to balancing your checkbook.

Try this for a week. Focus on what you want instead of what you
don’t want. Practice the skills of optimism, gratitude, generosity
and forgiveness and your life will expand.

Yes, that’s right. PRACTICE.

Good attitudes are skills that you develop through repetition, just
like swimming or math. And skills become second nature through
practice. You will become stronger and more relaxed when you decide
that you might as well thrive. Your commitment to expectancy is
another skill, and it’s decisive and magnetic. It attracts luck and
creates focus. People and opportunities will be drawn to you. Life
starts to get easier. And more fun.

Go ahead and test it. What have you got to lose? The only way you
can fail at anything is to quit trying!

2. YOU ARE AT THE CENTER OF YOUR UNIVERSE. STAY THERE!

As a young man growing up in the South Bronx, I learned the hard
way that I needed to take my corners wide and keep my hands out of
my pockets. In other words, I had to stay balanced, alert and ready
to react to surprises. I’ve found that a lot of life’s situations
require "street smarts". They range from the bedroom to the
boardroom, and you will encounter them throughout your life.

Keep your balance. Stay centered. Expect surprises.

Being centered has two sides; inner and outer.

Begin within.

Inner centeredness comes first; look there for your "best self". It
is how you will find peace of mind. There is a place in you that’s
connected to something beyond you. Spending time there will keep
your mind clear and your spirit refreshed. That “doorway” is your
center.

Until you’re connected to your core, you won’t be very good at
handling the rest of the world. Few people really get this. It is
the single most important and least understood fact of life.

Your center is easy to find. Every spiritual tradition in history
teaches prayer and meditation - it’s the most important thing you
can do for the quality of your life. Just take a little break a
couple of times a day, and learn to be still and RELAX. If you
give yourself this little time each day, you will become calmer,
stronger and your physical and mental health will improve. You will
begin to focus more on what you think of yourself, than what others
may think of you.

For outer centeredness, you need to gain awareness of your personal
boundaries. This is critical. Pay close attention to where you stop
and others start. Protect your personal prerogatives and respect
those of others. Allowing others to invade your boundaries will
destroy your personal freedom and subject you to their tyranny.

If you cross the boundaries of others you become codependent with
them, caring more about how they live their lives than how you live
yours. You can care about others without having to run their lives.
Let them go and feel the relief, once you get used to living only
your own life

Oprah's Weight Gain Confession

So the big buzz now is all about Oprah’s weight gain confession! Geez…. You know I can relate to my girl Oprah in that department. I was looking over some pictures I took 3 years ago and realized how much of the 54 lbs I lost was put back on. Thankfully I am not at my starting weight. I vow never to go aback there again….EVER!!!

Then last night I was watching my most favorite show, “the Biggest Loser” and Bob Harper was explaining how Season 1 Biggest Loser winner Ryan Benson now weighs as much today as he did when he first came to the house. How could that be? Bob explained it was because he didn’t “learn anything”.
Okay so now you are asking what does these 3 weight loss experiences have to do with being a business owner? It has a lot to do with it. We are shaped by our experiences, both positive and negative. Our success depends on what we do with both experiences.
First- When you fail, you pick yourself up and try it again, learning from the mistakes you made before.
Second- Build on your past successes, change what you did wrong.
Recently a fellow business associate said to me “I’m about to give it up” I asked her what happened? What went wrong? She replied “I didn’t do anything with it’. Weight loss like business only is successful if we continually work on it. Once you relax, you stop losing weight and God forbid even gain back. In any business once an entrepreneur stops working on it then the income slows down to a drip drip drip.
My intentions are to do both. I’m not giving up in either venue!

Joshua Persky Found a Job

Congratulations Joshua Perskey, he found a job. A blog reader who happens to work for WCBS radio 880 emailed me to let me know the good news. I wrote a blog about Joshua Perskey on another blog site.
You remember him? He's the former Wall Street Banker who spent the summer walking New York's financial district with a sandwich board and giving out resumes to anyone who would take it. Well it seems that his strategy worked!

A December to Remember

This has truly been a December to Remember.
It was confirmed that we are in a recession from December of last year.. As we if we didn’t notice!! The Dow has been going up an down more times than a roller coaster. Yesterday it dropped 700 points. Many companies have announced that they are canceling bonuses, canceling year end holiday parties, canceling raises and merit increases. But those are the lucky ones. Other companies like Citgroup, Washington Mutual, Starbucks are laying off thousands of employees.

Planning Your Inauguration 2009 Trip

The Planning for the Inauguration 2009 trips started as soon as President-elect Obama completed his acceptance speech. The theme for this year is "A New Birth of Freedom". Hundreds of thousands of people will be pouring into our Nation's capital for this momentous occasion of the installation of our 44th president and the Nation's 56th inauguration overall. What makes it even more special that this momentous occasion is occuring on Martin Luther King's Birthday weekend. I know he is looking down because this must be the Promised Land that he saw.

Washington D.C is a great vacation destination even when there is no great event like the Inauguration. It certainly has been one of my family's favorite vacations trough the years. We have been there at least 4 times and have yet to see everything.

One thing that disturbs me as a travel agent is the many fly by night companies that are "charging" for tickets to the Swearing in Ceremony. I want to set the record straight. Tickets for the swearing in ceremony are free and can be obtained from your Senator's office or Congress Representative. Check for information at the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.

Hotel rooms are going rapidly. One suggestion is to look for hotels in nearby Arlington Va or nearby Bethesda Maryland which is just off the suburbs of Washington D.C. Some hotels are requiring a 3-4 day minimum stay. Check on www.GailsDreamVacations.com for hotel availability.

My suggestion for getting around Washington D.C. is the Metro. Its a subway that is amazingly well kept. Avoid the long lines and purchase your daily passes in advance. Rule of thumb that kept me from getting lost. Dupont Circle is the nucleus of the Metro system.

Most of the events surrounding the actual inauguration will be outdoors. Washington D.C can be pretty cold in January so remember to dress warmly and wear comfortable shoes. Be prepared to do alot of walking and standing. Also be prepared for HUGE crowds. A record amount of people are expected for the Inauguration.

There are so many attractions available for a family in Washington D.C. My faamily favorites are the National Air and Space Museum, National Museum of Natural History,
and the National Museum of American History. One of our favorite exhibits, the Capital Children's Museum closed its doors in 2004. I understand that it will re-open in 2012.

The events of the day for the public begins with the Swearing in Ceremony. That is followed up by the Inaugural Parade down Pennsylvania avenue. I am told there will be alot less bleachers available to accomodate the people that are expected.

Unless you got some serious conections its a safe bet that you will not be obtaining tickets to any of the official balls on Inauguration Night. However you may be able to get tickets to the State Society balls and some of the smaller events open to the public.

Scammed Again!

A fellow Network marketer wrote about getting scammed on a forum. Very surprising because he is an expert at what he does. I learned a HUGE lesson here. I had to share it with my readers.

I Got Scammed!

Man, I'm mad. I'm so mad I can't see straight. And I'm not just being emotional. I'm an intelligent person and I'm speaking from experience. Don't make the mistake I did or you'll regret it.

Gold's Gym is a scam. In fact, I think the whole fitness club industry is a scam.

I saw pictures of people who were fit and trim and beautiful. And I wanted to be fit and trim and beautiful. So, I paid the $30 fee to come every month.

Then, guess what! No one told me that I had to pay extra for those power-bar snacks that were on the counter. Or that my membership fee didn't include the sports drinks. Or that a personal trainer wasn't included.

These things should have been my first red flags.

But, still I was excited that I might be able to lose some weight and start looking good. So I ignored the warning signals and started working out.

Well, I did everything they told me to do. I worked my legs a little. I didn't work out my arms because I hurt it one time in the past working out and I was afraid I'd get hurt again. So I skipped the arms.
I worked out my back. I worked my stomach a little bit but I decided I didn't want to push myself too hard. Plus, I was getting hungry after all this working out so I went and bought a powerbar. SIX DOLLARS! I kid you not. If I hadn't been so hungry, I wouldn't have bought one. But one of the guys who worked out there said he used them for daily snacks and he looked pretty good. So I thought I'd "try" one.

Anyway. That's not what made me mad. I'm coming to that part.

This all went on for a few days. I even spent $100 on workout clothes. It wasn't required but other people in the gym had them so I thought I'd get some, too.

In fact, I spent another $100 on a pair of new workout shoes. I picked a pair that I felt like I could still use even if I stopped working out. You never know if things are going to pan out the way you want, you know?

Anyway...one day, I was talking to a guy in the locker room. He was about 40 pounds overweight and he told me he'd been coming to the gym for SIX MONTHS. I did the math in my head..."If this guy has been here for six months, why isn't he thin and trim yet???"

That's when the warning bells went off again. This whole thing might just be a scam to get people's money. I mean, this guy wasn't mad or anything....in fact, he was excited that he'd lost some weight....BUT HE'S STILL OVERWEIGHT! And he's spending that money every month...and Gold's Gym just keeps taking it!

Then I thought, "I should get on the Internet and look up Gold's Gym!". I don't know why I didn't do that before! So, I went to Google and typed in "Gold's Gym scam" and you won't believe what I found!

Seriously.

Did you know that 80% of the people who join Gold's Gym cancel their membership within the first year? That 95% of the people who join Gold's Gym have never won a fitness contest? Or gotten a job as a model?

I found one lady online who said she joined Gold's Gym and the manager of the gym said she needed a personal trainer to help her create a "fitness plan" and to keep her on track. Guess what? She said it cost her an additional $200 a WEEK! What a ripoff! She DID say that she lost some weight while she was going but that -- after she stopped going every day -- the weight came back. She fired the trainer and said it was all a scam, too.

I even found one story about a guy who said that they Gold's Gym stole his money. He was supposed to get a promotional price of $19 a month but when he got his credit card statement, he found out that they were charging him $30 a month. That's like $120 a year in stolen money if he hadn't caught it.

Anyway....

As if that wasn't enough, some friends and I were at McDonald's the other day and I mentioned something about Gold's Gym. My friend Susan said that she'd tried Gold's Gym a few years ago and got NO results at all. She laughed that I'd fallen for it, too. I was so mad I almost spilled my milkshake.

Anyway....after I read all the stuff on the Internet about Gold's Gym and talked to some of my friends, I decided to quit. I don't deal with scam artists. They're just in it for the money. They act like they're interested in people's health but I guarantee you that -- if no one paid them -- they'd close up shop. So much for their "mission", huh?

And I'm beginning to think that those fit, trim, beautiful people in the Gym are part of the scam, anyway. Gold's Gym probably pays them to come in there and work out so they can sell more memberships.

Am I saying that exercise doesn't work? No, I'm not saying that. I'm sure it does. I'm just saying that you have to be careful when you join these big fancy gyms with the full-color brochures and all the stories of how people are getting results.

Because the truth is that those people are probably coming in there EVERY day (not just sometimes).....they've probably changed their eating habits (which no one mentioned to me)...and you can bet that they're all buying a lot of extra stuff from the Gym that's not part of their regular membership fee.

So, take it from me: Gold's Gym is a rip-off. I know. I've been there. The idea that you can come in and work out every day and start looking fit and trim SOUNDS good....but that's just to get you in the door.

Remember what they say, "If it sounds too good to be true...it probably is."

Anyway, all this has taught me a lesson. I'm not going to get suckered again. Next time I see someone or something that can supposedly "improve my life", I'll think twice.

Whether it's a diet.....a business idea.....or just an idea....I'll go check it out on Google first.

After all, if it's on the Internet it must be true, right?

Obama Won, Change has Come, Now What?

Obama won, Change has come, Now What? The parties are over. Campaign offices are cleaning up and closing. We are all looking to what will President Elect Obama do to solve our problems. The Dow still dropped another 500 points the day after the election. Governor David Patterson of New York, announced that he will be making severe b udget cuts. Mayor Mike Bloomberg, a financial wizard in his own right has announced that New York city will also suffer deep budget cuts? Our Lame duck President Bush is stil trying to work out another economic stimulus package.

The theme of the election was Yes We Can. Another theme was "We need a change." My question to you reader and to myself is what do I do? President Elect Obama cannot solve the country's economic problems alone. To help him we must help ourselves.

We must be conservative with our spending. Clean up our credit. Teach our children to respect money. And create our own economic stimulus.
There is a book I highly recommend to anyone seriously considering improving their financial situation. "The ABCs of Making Money". I have written about this book before. The authors take you through soup to nuts in how to re-organize your finances. When you pick up this book Check out the "Financial Freedom Snapshot". this book provides sample budgets and spread sheets and so much information you can use.
One thing these authors speak about is using business to become financially independant. It so happens that the authors reviewed my Travel host agency for my travel biz and it passed their stringent test. Now more than ever I am determined to make my home travel business successful. What made Jesse Jackson Cry?

Last night was such a monumental moment for me and my family. We watched Barack Obama become the first President who is Black of the U.S. As the cameras panned through the crowd the one picture that stood up was of Jesse Jackson who was visibly moved to tears. Yes we know that he had some unfortunate words for Obama while stumping for him during the campaign early on. He apologized for it. Unfortunately sometimes our elders are so stuck in their ways its hard for them to see there is another way to achieve a goal other than their old way.

But I saw a different Jesse Jackson last night. I saw an elder who was proud of his son. Jesse Jackson has seen it all. He walked, ate, slept, worried, campaigned with Martin Luther King. He then saw his mentor die at his feet. His clothes and his hands were covered with the last of Martin Luther King's blood as he saw the final hopes and dreams of Africans Americans ooze out of the lifeless body of Dr. King as he laid dying on the balcony of the Theresa Motel. But oh after the death comes the Resurrection.

After what seemed as an eternity, a glimmer of hope began to shine through in 2004. No actually it was the "Audacity of Hope". A newcomer came on the scene who had some unorthodox ways of doing things that was different from the tried and true methods of the old guard. Who would of thought it would work? But that Hope resurrected last night when the seeming impossible became possible. He then understood the total picture from before Rosa Parks to the Assasination of the King, to the seeming eternal wait for progress to the now birthing of a new generation that is taking this country to a new level.

That is why he is crying. He sees that Fannie Lou Hamer, the 3 Civil Rights Workers, The 4 Little Girls who died in the church Bombing, Viola Liuzzo, Thurgood Marshall and others did not have a dream die. We thought it had for a moment. But it lives in the hearts of Americans all over this country. They want change, they are mandating a change. Americans has demanded a Change.

Jesse's tears are tears of joy! Tears of accomplishment! Tears of relief! Tears of Hope! But never Tears of Regret. In 1984 and 1988 we were singing "Run Jesse Run". Now we can say Rest Jesse Rest. The baton has been handing over and its in good hands...

It seems that many of the major airlines have begun slashing their prices for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday travel. Northwest Airlines was the first and other major carriers have been following suit. This is all in response to the
Recession and the slowing down of the economy.
I suggest that you do your research because you can find some realy good deals. I did a price comparison on my site for today 11/1/08 and found that my site offered the same non stop flight from LaGuardia Airport to North Carolina for $63 cheaper than Expedia. Twitter is the newest social networking tool on the internet. What does that mean? It means you have a new website to meet and interact with new people. Its a network marketers dream. But there is a twist that makes it fun. Instead of a blogpost like this. You have to answer one question. "What are you doing?". To make it more interesting, you must answer that question in 140 characters or less. This includes, commas, periods, spaces and more. These are called Tweets. Sometimes you really have to think about how to post.

Book Your Holiday Travel Now Before the Fares Go Up

Just an FYI to my readers. If you have not booked your airfare for your 2008 holiday travel then do so NOW!! Airlines will soon be hiking the prices up. It is expected that the airfare for domestic travel will be 20-30% higher than last year.

In addition there are fewer flights available. In order to keep costs down, airlines are reducing the number of domestic flights available. Some flights may be booked.

Here are some Tips. Airfares sales are usually filed on Monday and available Tuesday through Thursday. Avoid booking your flights on Fridays through Monday if at all possible.

Another tip!-Pack light! If you can get away with just a carry on bag and your personal bag, then do it and avoid those $15-$25 charges for luggage.

My personal hint. Ladies you know how we like those huge handbags? Here is where they come in handy. Pack half of some of your items in your handbag and the rest in the carry on. Select clothing items that are wrinkle free that can be rolled up and take up little room. I saved at least $100 this summer that way!

I got a Raise from "First Class Training"

Yes I got a raise! In this economy it is so unusual to hear those words. I just got a raise to 70% vendor commission from my travel host company YTB. That is so awesome. They have so moved into the 21st century. I just completed my First Class Training which was formerly the RTA certification class. I have been certified for a year, but I just upgraded.
YTB prepared a 4 hour online travel training that is beyond awesome. It is available 24 hours 7 days a week! I chose to take all the modules in one day. But they actually can be taken at your convenience. Even one module a day if one so chooses. The content was rich! Information on our Preferred vendors, how to book group trips, and even a tour of the new enhanced travel website! There is so much additional travel training as well. This has truly whetted my appetite.

Taking this class online enables new Referring Travel Affiliates to upgrade to Referring Travel Agents and book directly with vendors. This class provides all the information needed to do so.

I have had the experience of booking direct with vendors based on the old guidelines and I can say it is really rewarding, and now it is even more rewarding with the raise we got to 70% vendor commission. Are People still Taking Vacations in this Crazy Economy?

Ae People still taking vacations and traveling in this crazy economy? You would think not? But the truth of the matter is that people are still taking vacations, and still traveling. They are traveling smarter.
People need a release from the stress of the jobs, and from life itself. What I have found as a Travel Agent is that folks are taking different types of vacations. Some call them "Staycations". Vacations that are closer to home for instance. My husband is a National Park Rangers and he told me that people are flocking to the National Parks these days. Travelers are basing their vacations by exploring sites closer to home.

Another trend is in the cruise industry. Travelers are taking cruises from port cities close to home where they can drive to, thus eliminating the need for airfare. This can drastically cut the cost of a vacation as much as 50% thus making it more affordable. Cruisers are also opting to take shorter, 3, 4, 5 day cruises.

And then we have the Baby Boomers". There are 53 million of them. These are the folks who watched "The Love Boat" in the ,70s-,80s and was fantasizing of one day going on these cruises and exotic trips like the ones Captain Gavin McCleod and Cruise Director Julie McCoy guided us through each Saturday evening. The Baby Boomers comprise a $192 billion travel industry. Baby b oomers are looking to take their vacations of a life time. They worked hard, and now are retired and taking exotic vacations to places like Egypt, China and Australia. MSNBC did a great story on this. Watch their video.

Even with this uncertain enconomy, People are still taking vacations and home based travel businesses are thriving as a result.

People are looking for more and more ways to being in extra income. I listen to the News last night when they announced that the unemployment rate is the highest it has been in the past 5 years! The national average is a whopping 6.1%! People need a way to bring in extra income.
As you know I chose to sell travel. You may ask, "How do you sell travel and you are a nurse?" My Host Agency YTB offers lots of training opportunities.

I have been ordering brochures from our back office as well. I received my order from Collette Vacations and already have 2 persons interested in 2 different vacation tours. I have been having fun just reading through them.

Two days ago I ordered Carnival Cruise brochures fromt the back office. I arrived home from work yesterday to a big box full of Carnival Cruise brochures for cruises in 2008 and 2009.

What do I plan do do with all these brochures? Use them at my Travel Parties!
We have all been to Tupperware parties. Well this is a Travel Themed party. I'm invite my friends and family over, introduce them to my travel website,

Wall Street Meltdown- How can the Average American Recession Proof their Income?

The Wall Street meltdown continued as the Dow plunged 500 points today. The bad news keeps on coming. Lehman Brothers are about to file bankruptcy leaving approximately 10,000 people without a job. I was introduced to "The ABC Guys" Dr. Denis Cauvier and Alan Lysaght at the 2008 National Convention in St. Louis Missouri for the homebased travel biz. In their book named "The ABCs of Making Money" Their philosophy is based on the premise that for a financial overhaul there needs to be an
Attitude change towards making money, There needs to be a
Behavior change toward making money
Creativity in managing and generating money.
I purchased this book at the convention and I must say it was worth every penny.
The exercises that are in the book really makes you stop and take a look at your attitude toward money and make an assessment at where you are financially.
One of the exercises was the "Financial Freedom Snapshot" that forces the reader to take a real look at their financial situation. This is so needed in this time of mortgage foreclosures, and lay-offs and high gas prices.

After you go through the first 2 sections of the book of assessing your finances and getting on task with your budget, there is a section called the "Money-Making Business Opportuities" The ABC guys have developed a The ABCs 15 Power Points of an Ideal Business.

Ideally your business should …

1-sell to the masses
2-fulfill a fundamental need for many people
3-be low risk
4-provide the opportunity for ongoing residua;ll income
5-require a low staff component
6-have a stable, growing, long-term demand
7-have low overhead costs
8-have low start-up costs
9-have a unique quality, making it difficult for competitors to copy
10-have positive cash flow and low inventory
11-have high profit margins and rats of return
12-have minimal government regulation
13-be portable
14-be fun, challenging and satisfying for the business owner
15-provide an opportunity to uncover other money making opportunities.”

Now in the past Only one company had measured up on their 15 points of requirements for an ideal business. However in the Revised and Updated version of the book on page 195, there is this quote:

What an endorsement! All I know is that makes me feel even better about this fantastic home based travel business that I am the proud owner of.

John McCain and Sarah Palin made a Master Network Marketing move. I always heard in training calls that we should find our niche market and target them. Well John McCain did just that. Democrats are celebrating Barack Obama’s historic acceptance speech for the Democratic nomination for the president of the United States on the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I have a Dream" Speech”. McCain Knew he had to come up with a master plan to steal some of Obama’s thunder. After all everyone will be talking about Obama's speech and historic nomination the next day. McCain knew there would be some women who were waiting for Hillary’s night in the spotlight for the past 4 years ( trust me, I know what I am talking about, I’m from NY!).

So what does McCain do? He thinks out the box, went against conventional thinking. He bypassed all the "expected" candidates and went for the woman!

Then, McCain makes the move of all time! He fills up the empty void with his choice of Sarah Palin, hoping to lure the diehard disappointed Hillary supporters to his team. A virtual unknown. That was the move of all time! Now whether it will work is another story. McCain made a classic network marketing move. He found people with a need and he provided the solution.

McCain also filled another niche. Obama is talking about change. That is the theme of his campaign. Lets get away from the old way of doing things. The Democratic ticket is definitely a ticket of change. So McCain could not have the same old "good ole boy" political ticket of the past. So by picking a woman he is appealing to the younger Republicans who can say yes, the Republicans are also changing. So essentiall in November the new leadership in our country will be a first! Either the first Black president, or the first female Vice President.

Here is the connection with network marketing, or any home based business. You have to find people with a need, then you need to provide the solution or answer for that need. You also have to find a niche to market to. That is what John McCain did. With my Home based travel biz, I find people who have a need to make an extra income and I let them see a way they can do it that is fun and nearly hassle free.

I try to connect with niche markets, such as the bridal industry, because I have a Bridal and Honeymoon registry and my Honeymoon site .

California Attorney General says My Travel Biz Grew Too Big, Too Quick, Too Fast?

Too big, Too Fast Too Quick.
That’s what the California Attorney General lawsuit is saying about our online travel Biz. We grew too big, too fast. Well if you think about it, if we are the 26th largest travel company in the U.S. as Travel Weekly indicates I guess it would scare some people. But what are they really scared of?
Average people like you and I finally getting ahead by owning our own businesses instead of slaving away at a second job or a part time job?

Every day hard working people like us utilizing the tax deductions that big time business owners enjoy? Lower income and Middle class people like us becoming financially independent, finally realizing our dreams?

I enjoy helping my friends and family book their vacations. I have had my best friend and her husband book their dream vacation to Belize last fall. Subsequently, others booked their Disney trips , cruises and family vacations. I even booked the senior trip for my son’s Senior class this year! What’s even more exciting is when I go to my back office and see that total strangers have booked their trips on my site. How exciting is that?

There are 2 ways to make money on Gail’s Vacation, Travel and Cruises.

Some that have an entrepreneurial spirit wanted to know how they could have a Travel website like mine, and I told them!

This year I was able to attend the 2008 National Convention. I used my earnings from my travel Biz to pay the expenses. What an honor it was to be around all of that electric excitement. I can’t tell you how exhilarating it was when our new marketing site was introduced.
I had the option of keeping the original site which was very nice or upgrading to the enhanced marketing site I have. It has a Capture form where my visitors can input their name and email for more information. There is also a media center where the company presentation can be seen.
I am looking forward to seeing our new booking engine which is scheduled for release in the next couple of months. Our new enhanced booking engine will include traveler profiles, cross-vendor search results, consolidated itineraries and new suppliers, destinations and products. We will a also have powerful new sales tools like group bookings for all types of travel
and private branding options for commercial accounts.

My focus for my second year is training, training and more training. I want to learn more about travel so I enrolled in Travel Agents university. I am also working toward my cruise counselor accreditation through CLIA. I started last year by taking the test to get my 2008 CLIA card. I am very proud of that accomplishment.
My intentions are to work and not be a secret agent. I’m not expecting buckets full of money to magically drop in my lap. I figure I would have had to take on a second job to supplement my income and drag my self home tired to the bone, only to wake up 6 hours later and do it again. But I found a way to work at my own business, at my own pace and my make my own money and feel good about myself.
I made the right decision to become involved in this home based travel biz a year ago. I don’t regret it not one minute!

Back Home from the 2008 Travel Biz Convention

I finally made it home from the 2008 National Convention from the Edward Jones Dome! it was indeed an experience of my lifetime. Friday the convention opened up with a bang...literally. You can see the opening ceremony video here. There wasn't a dry eye available.
Saturday mroning was Women's Day. We heard testimonies from many of the women who had successes. Like Andria Hall who worked her business while being treated for breast cancer. She bravely came on the stage, sans the wig she had been previously wearing, thus revealing to the world her diagnosis. Before only close family and friends knew of her plight.
What a pillar of strength she is! Is proof that if she can do it anyone can do it.

At the airport I ran into a young lady who is a single parent and in theis country alone. She actually worked her way to t he convention. She goes to school and literally lives off of what she makes in her travel business. How encouraging is that? I watched how she worked as we sat there waitng for news of our next fight out of St. Louis. She started casual conversations and somehow slipped in the info of the travel business. She was so smooth. But you know, necessity will do that for you. This lady has to make money to survive. She has that fire!

National Convention at the St. Louis America's Center- Day#2

Today was Day #2 of te National Convention at the St. Louis America's center. I just got in from dinner. Its about 11:54 PM. I wish I could get your a rundown of today's activities but I got to get in bed. We have to be at the Edward Jones Dome at 8 AM in the morning. ALl I know is that the people just keep on coming. The halls were so crowded with people going from class to class. More people are coming tonight including friends of mine. I just got off the phone with my friend Denyse and she should be here by 5:30 AM. All I can say that the air is electric with excitement. Tomorrow is the opening ceremony of the General session. I do know that the California lawsuit will definitely be addressed. Everyone I know is not disturbed by it at all. After all Microsoft, PrePaid legal and other companies had to endure this.
This is a business. Network Marketing does not mean No-Work marketing. It is what its name says NetWORK marketing. So theren is no "get rich quick" miracle.
I am happy to day that the commissions I received on travel and recruitment has provided me with the spending money for this week. I did not have to take the expenses out of my household budget.
As another presenter said- We need to raise the B.A.R.

National 2008 Convention in St. Louis- Day 1

I must say that this convention has got to be one of the most well run, organized conventions I have ever attended of any organization!
the thunder storms we had last night helped to cool off the temperatures. We only got up to 87 degrees today...LOL
Today was the first day of classes. Most of them were held in America's Center. This is a HUGE convention center.
A total of 160 classes are being offered on these days. The biggest problem is choosing which class to attend.Some of the classes are on travel and others are on marketing, self development and team builsing and edification.

My First class was with Level 2 Director Von Nickleberry. Entilted "The Believer and YTB; Build Your Biz the Christian Way". Von shared his testimony interwoven in showing the siilarities of network marketing and the creation of the early church. He shared how it is possible foe Beleivers to be successful in Network Marketing.

Next was Roland Althouris' clas "Buildig Momentum through Travel Parties" he illustrated how to be a conversationalist, and a formula for being successful

I thinkt he most inspirational class today was Craig Sweet's "Power of Belief and Edification" Craig held up a pair of pants he used to wear when he was 505 lbs!That is not a typo. It tok alot of faith and determinaton for him to lose over 230 lbs. He shared alot iof insight and correlated it to the home based travel business.

There were so many more classes I attended and more for tomorrow.

Checking in from the 2008 National Convention

Just checking in with everyone. We arrived this afternoon greeted by 99 degree weather, and a severe thunderstorem watch. On our plane ride was Director Devon McCullough We also got to meet so many other people in our Travel Biz.
Registration was super-smooth, in and out. We had pre-registered and didn't even have to stand in line for our complimentary back packs, loaded with all kinds of goodies.

Everywhere we go there are signs greeting us to St.Louis. There are even banners lining the streets of downtown St. Louis. My husband and I had dinner with with Regina Osei and her family and met members of her downline.

So that pretty much sums up my day today. We will be having our classes at the America Center tomorrow and Thursday. I will try hard to report back.
Until then......as Roland Althouris would say " Don't believe what you see, SEE what you believe"

Going to My First Travel Biz Convention

I'm packing up, got my laptop ready, got my Registration materials and I am on my way to my very first Travel Biz convention!
I listened to my company call yesterday and I was so surprised to find that over 22,000 people are registered. Wow. I am looking forward to meeting my online friends like Doug Bauknight, Regina Osei, Denyse Turner and of course brand new dad,
and Level 2 Director Von Nickleberry among others.

There will be 2 full days of back to back educational classes. They will be on Travel and marketing. All at the America' Center in St. Louis Missouri.
My husband asked me yesterday, "So what do you plan to get out of this convention"?
Of course it would be him to come up with a philosophical question, LOL
But it is very relevant.

I expect to
*Come away with alot of knowedge of the travel industry.
*Learn how to effectively market my product in a way that produces results.
*Meet with successful Referring Travel Agents and learn from them.
*Come back energized and more focused to take my business to the next level.

There are fundamental beliefs that are crucial for the success of your online home based travel business. In 1973 New York Mets Relief pitcher coined the phrase “Ya gotta believe” which became the catchphrase that helped propel the New York Mets to win the National League Pennant that year. It is so much the same when we own our own home based online travel business. You just gotta believe!

1-Develop a belief in the Product. You have to know that you are offering people a Great Product which is Travel. Get familiar with it. Go in your back office and get familiar with it. 2-Develop a belief in the company- Get around people in the company who are Leaders. Find mentors. Take advantage of the National conventions, the weekly meetings, the travel trade shows , webinars. I have greatly benefited from being associated with leaders In my company.

3-Develop a belief in the industry of network marketing. Mark Yarnell wrote a book called the “Your First Year in Network Marketing”. That book made me believer. I learned the advantages of Network Marketing . I see the success of the many champions in the field. Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump both support the Network marketing business model. After all we do it everyday.

4-Develop a belief in others – Teach your team that they can be successful. Stay focused on the understanding that most people want exactly what you want, that is a better quality of life than they are currently living. Remember to value people NOT money! The worse thing in the world is to entice people to join your team, you gain the commission and then abandon them. That is what gives Network Marketing a bad name.

5-Develop a belief in yourself. In the Motown Musical Version of “the Wiz” Glenda the good witch sings a song that has the line “Believe in yourself right from the start, believe in the magic that comes from your heart…..Believe in yourself like I believe in you”

Glenda said it all. With these 5 beliefs ,you will feel more confident as you approach future clients and business partners and your online home based travel business will take off.

Randy Pausch- Dying to live

Randy Pausch was Carnegie Mellon professor whose greatest lesson was how to live even though he was dying. Diagnosed with one of the most devastating forms of cancer, which is pancreatic cancer he managed to teach the world how to live a life of fulfillment. Randy Pausch did not allow himself to be overcome with the thoughts of his unavoidable death, but he chose to make the most of the time he had.
Last August his doctors grimly predicted he had 6 months to live, but with his positive outlook he was able to actually able to extend his live another 5 months. My nursing experience tells me that was nothing short of a miracle.

Carnegie Mellon had a tradition of having professors speak at a forum sharing wisdom as if it was the last lecture of their lives. Randy Pausch did not have to pretend. Instead he shared a lecture on “childhood wonder”. I understand there was not a dry eye in the place. That lecture became known as “the Last Lecture”. It took off and was all over the internet. Dr. Pausch actually was a guest of Oprah along with Dr. Oz.

I cannot tell you the impact that his lecture had on me. After I watched his lecture on YouTube last Fall, my life concerns paled in comparison. He stated;
“If I don't seem as depressed or morose as I should be, sorry to disappoint you.”
Randy would tell people “I don’t know how to not have fun. I’m dying and having fun.” Sadly Randy Pausch lost his battle to cancer Friday, July 25, 2008 at the age of 47. However he did not lose his battle to Death, because he lived.

What is Fear?

What is FEAR? Its nothing but

False Evidence Appearing Real.

We know that the negative force in this world, the Enemy we call in Christian circles uses fear in our lives to prevent us from achieving the goals that we can reach. The Enemy or Negative force uses lies and tricks to attempt to keep us in defeat. Anytime we feel hesitant, doubtful, unsure, scared or weak that is a component of FEAR.

It is important to conquer fear. The Key to conquering fear is trust. I completely trust God to lead me and guide me in all my decisions in life. Fear can paralyze your life. It can cause your business to fail. Many people who have home based businesses fail because of fear. They are afraid to speak to people, afraid to share their business opportunity. Afraid of others predicting their failure!

How do we conquer fear? Glad you asked! There are three ways.

Recognize- when the enemy or the Negative Force is trying to derail us. Pray and ask God to reveal the attacks of the enemy on our lives, families and businesses. Those derailments can come in the form of people or obstacles. In my church we sing a Ron Kenoly song that I love. “Whose Report Will You Believe? And the congregation answers “We shall believe the report of the Lord! “Nuff said!

Refuse to accept fear from coming over you. In my belief as a Christian we know that we can use the word of God against the Spirit of fear. Scriptures such as 2 Timothy 1:7, Isaiah 41:10. In Psalm 56 is actually one of my favorites on the subject of fear, particularly verses 3,4 and 11

When I am afraid I will trust in you. In God whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?
verse 11- In God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

Rejoice in the midst of the storm and the situation. How can we rejoice? Sing, smile, laugh, dance, praise, worship, speak positive. This actually confuses the enemy, it confuses that negative force. Don’t talk negatively about the situation. Instead speak life!
"I will get that job"
"I am healed"
"My children are be blessed"
"My business is successful"

An example of this occurred last week in my company YTB. A Press Release was sent stating that the company filed with the SEC to explore changing our current MLM business model to a franchise model. One blogger stated that the filing was made on 10:21 AM on July 15 and at 10:27 Am, 6 minutes later, the first negative blog posted citing all the negative reasons that aYTB and all the RTA will fail. Immediately after, negative blogs and forum comments were pouring in like a flood. People sending tongue in cheek, "prayers" to YTB Reps. A website suddenly popped up dedicated to bringing your YTB team over to their company!!! Do you see the pattern?
It was False Evidence Appearing Real. The enemy or the Negative force, if you will , shot out his spiny tentacles to unsuspecting YTB business owners, and used manipulators that caused unnecessary fear in some people who thought this new model would cause them to lose their businesses. After all some “Experts” in the competition said so. Our CEO posted a letter which actually negated each one of the situations posters had listed. He listed the plans and the positive outcomes they are expecting if the YTB Franchise proposal is accepted. What a difference it was! It was like night and day! This past Saturday our CEO Coach Lloyd Tomer continued in the same sentinet via our weekly webcast entitled "Do You Want to Scratch with the Chickens or Soar with the Eagles. He was speaking life! With this lesson I speak life, and success to my online homebased travel business.

So the next time you feel that ugly spirit of fear to grip you, remember how to conquer your fears by using the .“3 Rs” Recognize, Refuse and Rejoice!

Locus of Control can help you build your YTB online travel business to rebounding proportions if you understand what it is and utilize its attributes. What is Locus of control? Glad you asked!

Locus of Control is defined as an individual's perception about the underlying main causes of events in his/her life. As pertaining to our YTB Home based travel business it would be an agent's perception of how and why their business is successful or is not successful.

A person with an Internal Locus of Control the success of the business is determined by their personal actions, decisions and efforts. A person with an external Locus of Control blames the failure of their business on outside factors which they have no control over.

For example, recently one of my colleagues in the same Travel Biz as me was considering leaving the business because in her perception, outside forces which hindered her in being successful. She blamed the Coach's purchase of a new Jet, the stock prices going down ( which has since rebounded and has been upgraded to OTC)her team not being successful and a host of other complaints. My question was. What did She do to help her business? did se follow the script and have Travel Parties, did she reach out to friends and family who like to travel? How did she market and promote her business? Does she even possess business cards? Did she put out fliers? Did she treat her her Travel Bizbusiness as a real business? This person had a strong external locus of control.

MIAMI -- Norwegian Cruise Line's third generation of Freestyle cruise ships will not have main dining rooms, main theaters or Lido deck cafes.
In addition, the ships will not have traditional cruise ship cabins and will have many features that will be "unrecognizable" to cruisers, said Colin Veitch, NCL's president and CEO.
Speaking at the Seatrade Cruise Shipping convention here, Veitch unveiled these initial and vague details on the two 150,000-gross-ton ships NCL is building, the first of which is scheduled for delivery in January 2010. The megaships will be NCL's first to top the 100,000-gross-ton mark, and each will hold 4,200 passengers.
Veitch said that NCL is already marketing the ships because "it is a product that needs to be explained."
Veitch also said that the Norwegian Jade will be the first ship to launch the cruise line's Freestyle 2.0 program when it debuts in the Mediterranean on March 30. The Jade, the former Pride of Hawaii, is currently in drydock. The ship is being upgraded according to the line's product-enhancement initiative.
Enhancements include major investments in the ship's dining, upgraded cabins, additional onboard activities and additional services and amenities for guests in balcony, suite and villa accommodations.
Veitch said the Jade will spend the next two years doing year-round cruises in Europe.

Passport Cards Vs. Passport books

Many of my friends and clients have been asking me about the difference between the new passport cards and the passport books. The government has begun to accept applications for the new passport cards on February 1, 2008. The first cards will be issued sometime in May.

I had addressed information about the passport cards in another blog post. Here is a quick glance look at the difference between the two.

Passport Book- Valid for travel by air, sea and land

Passport Card- Valid for travel by land and sea only. Is limited to trvel between the U.S. and canada , Mexico, Bermuda and Carribean. It is not valid for travel by air.

Passport Book and Passport Cards are both valid for 10 years for adults and 5 years for minors.

Passport book- Costs- 1st time applicant- $100 - Minors $55

Passport Card - Cost- $45 for adult, $35 - minors

My suggestion would be to obtain the passport book. Its less restrictive, and it can be used for air travel, although its more expensive .

Important information about the U.S. Passport Cards-

U.S. Passport Card Applications Accepted Beginning February 1
U.S. citizens may begin applying in advance for the new U.S. Passport Card beginning February 1, 2008, in anticipation of land border travel document requirements. We expect cards will be available and mailed to applicants in spring 2008.

The passport card will facilitate entry and expedite document processing at U.S. land and sea ports-of-entry when arriving from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda. The card may not be used to travel by air. It will otherwise carry the rights and privileges of the U.S. passport book and will be adjudicated to the exact same standards.
The Department of State is issuing this passport card in response to the needs of border resident communities for a less expensive and more portable alternative to the traditional passport book. The card will have the same validity period as a passport book: 10 years for an adult, five for children 15 and younger. For adults who already have a passport book, they may apply for the card as a passport renewal and pay only $20. First-time applicants will pay $45 for adult cards and $35 for children.
To facilitate the frequent travel of U.S. citizens living in border communities and to meet DHS’s operational needs at land borders, the passport card will contain a vicinity-read radio frequency identification (RFID) chip. This chip will link the card to a stored record in secure government databases. There will be no personal information written to the RFID chip itself.

YTB: Update on New Government Rules on Passport Cards

Update on New Government Rules On Passport Cards and Entry to U.S.

Before you prepare for that special vacation, You need to read this!

First: New regulations go into effect on January 31st that require all persons entering or re-entering the U.S. to show proof of citizenship. Prior to that date, persons can continue to prove citizenship verbally.

Proof of citizenship can be accomplished by presenting a valid passport, an original or certified copy of a U.S. birth certificate, or an original copy of your certificate of citizenship or naturalization. We recommend a passport because it is the only document that proves both your citizenship and your identity.

Edited to add --CHANGE IN LAW- As of June 1, 2009 Passports or Passport Cards are required for ALL travel.

Second: The Department of State, the agency of the Federal Government that issues passports, issued new rules regarding the new passport card on December 31, 2007. Here is a summary of everything covered in the new regulations. As you will see, there are more rules to be issued in the future telling citizens when and how the State Department will begin issuing passport cards. When and how the State Department will begin issuing the passport cards is not yet known.

1. The State Department will issue passport cards. The official name of the document will be "passport cards." State will continue to issue "passport books" which up until now we have known as a "passport."

2. A new DS 11 passport application form will be issued between now and February 1st. On the form, applicants will be given an option to apply either for a passport card or a passport book.

3. The passport card is valid only for passage through land and sea ports between the U.S. and Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean and Bermuda. The passport card cannot be used for flights into or out of the U.S.

4. The passport card will be issued to citizens in all 50 states but it is exclusively for use for land and sea entrance to the U.S. Passport cards cannot be used for international air travel.

5. Passport cards can be used for identification for domestic flights. Remember: the passport card can be used as government-issued proof of identity and proof of citizenship. So, if you do not have a driver's license and need identification for passing through security for domestic travel, you can use your passport card for proof of identity instead of presenting your driver's license.

6. Passport cards have the same validity as passport books 10 years for adults 16 and over and 5 years for children under 16.

7. Citizens will be able to apply for a passport card at any acceptance agent on the same basis as a regular passport.

8. Passport books must be signed on the signature page by the passport holder to be valid. Passport cards do not have to be signed to be valid.

9. The passport cards will be able to be scanned at U.S. borders when a person is in the vicinity of an electronic reader that will be operated by U.S. border control officials. The chip in the card contains only one item of information a unique identifying number that has meaning only inside the secure database of the State Department and Homeland Security Department. There is no personal information such as name, date of birth, social security number, etc. stored electronically on the chip. So, if someone did pick up the signal, they would not be able to use the data to learn anything about the holder.

10. The execution fee for applying for a passport card is $25. The execution fee for applying for a passport book is $30.

11. The fees for obtaining a passport card for persons without a passport are as follows:
Adults: Total $45 ($20 application fee, plus $25 execution fee)
Children under 16: Total $35($10 application fee, plus $25 execution fee)

12. Persons who have a valid passport book (Remember: a "passport book" means a person who has a "passport") and who are applying for a passport card (in addition to holding a valid passport) are not required to pay the execution fee. Thus, persons with a valid passport who also want a passport card can apply for $20.

13. The government may permit alternative documentation for land crossings such as driver's licenses issued by states that have established methods for determining citizenship acceptable to the Federal government. Several states have already submitted proposals to the Federal government. This matter will be addressed in subsequent regulations issued by the Federal government.

10 Reasons Why a Nurse Would Start an Online Homebased Travel Business

A few weeks ago I made a comment on a friend's blog. A poster by the name of "Anounymous" made an interesting comment. Why would a nurse (referring to me) have a home based online travel business? After all nurses make good salary. Well I thought that question deserves a good answer.

So yes, I am proud of being a RN, one of the most prestigious professions around. I give many thanks to Florence Nightingale and Mary Eliza Mahoney whose footsteps are huge to fill.

I decided to share 10 reasons why a Nurse would have an online home based travel business.

So in the true spirit of David Letterman, here we go:

I want to retire early. Look, my back hurts, my knees ache, and I'm tired. When I retire I want to enjoy my life while I'm healthy enough to appreciate it.

Pay off Bills- I mean kiss those credit card companies, college loan companies and college tuition folks good-bye forever!!

Work from home- Look to do the above I need extra income. Its a pleasure to come home from my job and work for myself instead of someone else

Flexible hours- Need I say more?

Low start up fee. A friend recently started a business. She was ecstatic that she paid only $10,000 for her storefront. Now that is not including her merchandise, overhead costs or even monthly rates! YIKES!! One can start with YTB for free or pay $499 for 2 websites that's already set up, and maintained and even upgraded. so far Since June there has been about 3 upgrades!

Unlimited Income potential. What I make correlates with how much work I put into it. But I get to work when I want to!!!

Decreased stress. There is something to be said about having control over you own future. With companies downsizing left and right, layoffs occuring. Its great to have your own Plan B. So what happens, happens. I have a backup.

Good support and training. We have access to so much training. There are live conference calls. These calls are also archived in our back office. So if I miss a live call I can hear it at my leisure. There are Vendor trainings, onsite, on webinars, conference calls and online. Very convenient for my busy schedule. There are company certification trainings as well. There is also specialized training with VaxVacationAccess and Disney Travel Agents and more. Don't forget the industry training as well, many of those are online. I have learned so much!

Tax benefits. An accountant friend told me this is the best thing my husband and I could have done if even we didn't make a dime (his words not mine! LOL) By saving all of our receipts and going to a reputable tax acountant, we can save so much. What a relief!!

Travel. I get to travel at travel agent rates. Its not automatic and certain criteria must be met, but I have that option. OR I can book my own vacation and just wait to get my commission check.

Oh!! I said ten right? Okay I fibbed.....Here is one more. I earn 60% travel commission when my friends and family book their vacations with me.

So that is the reason why I this nurse is a RTA with YTB! so "Anounymous" now has their answer!

Why I Have a Home Based Travel Business.
As a community we need to change our mindset. We have to purpose to improve our life. As T.D.Jakes says we must "Reposition Ourselves" for success. If we keep on doing what we always do we will we keep on getting what we always have gotten.

Deuteronomy 8:18 says "But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today"

We have the ABILITY to produce wealth. That is so powerful. Well I am crazy enough to stand on the promises of God! I have stepped out on faith and started something I never thought in a million years that I would do. I am looking for business partners to join with me and partake of the blessings that the Lord is bestowing.

Traditional Travel Agent Vs. Home Based Travel Agent~ What's the difference?

Home based travel agents are becoming more and more popular. They are also very convenient and more affordable. Who wouldn't want the service of a personal travel agent with the convenience of a Expedia like booking engine?

Convenience. its not necesary to get to that Travel store by 6pm. Instead the Travel store is online.

Cost effective: Home based travel agents can give the same service without the Store based fees. For example yourairline ticket can be $50- $100 cheaper because there are no or low fees attached.

Personal :Those well known booking engines may be convenient but they are faceless. Who do you call if you have a question? The home based travel agent is your next door neighbor, friend or family member. Because of that they are willing to go the extra mile and the customer can get the most bang for the buck!

So with home based travel agents the customer gets the best of both worlds. The convenience of booking online with the personal touch of a travel agent.

The next time you consider going on vacation or booking a flight, or even taking that cruise you always dreamed of, just give a call to your friendly home based travel agent.
